Rodzice żyjący w ciągłym lęku o życie swoich dzieci, a często w realiach, w kt�rych to życie jest nieustannie zagrożone, matki rodzące po dziesięcioro dzieci po to, aby choć połowa z nich dożyła wieku dorosłego ? tacy ludzie doświadczają niedostatku głębszego niż sam brak pieniędzy.Napisano wiele książek o bogactwie i o nier�wnościach, o tym, jak zdrowie i zamożność idą w parze... Ja staram się opowiedzieć te historie łącznie, mając nadzieję, że demografowie i historycy pozwolą ekonomiście zapuścić się na sw�j teren, ponieważ historia osiągania dobrobytu i dążenia do tego, co sprawia, że warto żyć, byłaby niekompletna, gdybyśmy skupili się tylko na części tego, co w tej sprawie istotne.Z Przedmowy Autora
