Focusing on the evolution of the telecommunications industry, this study explores the convergence of previously distinct communication sectors into a hypercommunications structure influencing the global economy. The author examines technological innovation, entrepreneurship, and public policy from the telegraph's invention to the web's emergence, highlighting key developments in engineering and legislation. Additionally, the internal policies of major firms like AT&T are analyzed, along with a cautious assessment of future implications for public life.

The „Flies of the Nearctic Region“ is intended to be a counterpart to the Palaearctic series („Die Fliegen der paläarktischen Region“) under publication since 1924. We have been able to secure the support of North American dipterists for initiating this series because of the high reputation which the Palaearctic series enjoys.
