Insbesondere die Geschlechterdissoziation - einschliesslich der Rolle des Kindes - wird systematisch am kulturellen Wissen der Goethezeit gemessen. Die Familienstrukturen umfassen neben natürlichen und «künstlichen» Familien auch para- und metaphorische Familien. Eine Untersuchung über Machtstrukturen sowie ein Kapitel über poetologische Implikationen schliessen die Arbeit ab.
