This acclaimed text offers a comprehensive guide to breast imaging and diagnostics, essential for clinicians diagnosing breast disease. The updated third edition includes advancements in mammography, ultrasound, breast MRI, percutaneous interventions, and emerging technologies, with evidence-based approaches throughout. Key features include extensive coverage of examination procedures, technical requirements, and the histologic, clinical, and radiologic appearances of various breast pathologies. It presents findings from international screening studies and nearly 1,200 clear radiographic images illustrating normal findings, benign and malignant disorders, and changes due to trauma, surgery, and therapy. Innovations such as digital mammography, tomosynthesis, and computer-assisted detection (CAD) are discussed, alongside new chapters on imaging implants and lesions of uncertain malignant potential. The text employs a systematic methodology for detection, diagnosis, and assessment, complemented by easy-to-follow flowcharts for diagnostic work-ups of both typical and atypical cases. Authored by leading experts with extensive clinical experience, this resource is vital for radiologists, residents, gynecologists, oncologists, surgeons, technologists, and other specialists dedicated to improving breast disease outcomes.

    • Since the first edition of Contrast-Enhanced MRI of the Breast was published in 1990, further progress has been made in the field and interest in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as an additional tool in the diagnosis of breast disease has increased. However, further questions have arisen concerning the best choice of technique, the most appropriate way to interpret MR images, and the role which MRI might play in the work-up of breast disease. In this edition we give an overview of the latest technical possibilities and present knowledge, which today is based on a much greater range of experience gained by various excellent research groups. It is our aim to help the interested reader in choosing an appropriate technique and in finding those applications which promise the greatest benefit for the patient. The particular advantages and limitations of MRI have been pointed out and the currently known capabilities and still existing limitations of other imaging modalities, including transcutaneous biopsy, discussed. Finally, a chapter concerning the use of MRI in the diagnosis of implant failure, a new situation, has been added. Acknowledgements. Since the first edition was published, much further work and research has been necessary. This would not have been possible without the continuous support of many colleagues, coworkers, and advisors.

    • This book provides a comprehensive review of contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging of the breast. Following a short introduction providing relevant background information, the book is divided into three main sections. The first discusses technical requirements and outlines an optimized standard technique, as based on multicenter studies and the authors' own experience. The appearance of benign and malignant breast tissues is then discussed and illustrated, and the value of MRI appraised relative to that of other imaging modalities. The final section provides data on the accuracy of MRI in different contexts and attempts to define its current role. The book concludes by discussing the application of MRI for the diagnosis of implant rupture and likely future developments.
