Die in diesem Band versammelten Texte erschienen 1974 in arabischer Übersetzung in der Zeitschrift Âfâq (Horizonte). Für diese Ausgabe wurden sie überarbeitet und erweitert. L'idée directrice des analyses recueillies dans ce volume est que la mutation culturelle constitue le moment actuel de l'histoire du monde arabe. Le monet de mutation culturelle se définit comm celui de la tension entre la tradition et la modernité. Il se définit aussi, au-delà des réactions de retraditionalisation ou d'occidentalisation, comme celui de la constitution d'un modèle socioculturel nouveau, qui soit la modernisation d'une culture par ailleurs identifiable par sa tradition. Dans ce sens, l'entreprise de mutation culturelle, englobant la révolution politique et la révolution éthique, s'appuyant sur l'éducation et sur la technique, et visant la construction de l'homme nouveau, capable, par sa mentalité critique, de se prendre en charge et de construire un monde humain.
