Pp. 23-57, "Jüdisches Leben im ländlichen Südhessen" ("Jewish Life in Rural Areas of Southern Hesse"), in German and English, recount the history of Jews in the region and in Germany in general, from the persecutions of the Middle Ages through emancipation to the Holocaust. Pp. 59-318 (in German), "Jüdische Gemeinden im Kreis Gross-Gerau", relate the history of Jewish communities in each village of the Gross-Gerau district and the fate of each family in the Holocaust, with many memoirs and facsimiles of documents. Pp. 354-362, "Die Reichskristallnacht", describe the vandalizing of Jewish homes and shops and the destruction of synagogues, with the active participation of the civilian population.
