Meer over het boek

On that day, Frankfurt’s skyscrapers resembled the tower of Babel, reflecting sunlight like mirrors. It was late summer, warm with a gentle breeze, yet many felt they had lost their social identities, security, and connection to the city. Above, the sky held a strange tension, while below, sadness and emptiness lingered, concealing countless agonies. Our lives, meant to be safeguarded by advanced technology, can be shattered in an instant by destructive forces. The search for answers feels like navigating a maze, with each person needing to find their own way out. This work explores the concept of ‘Kigo’ and its resources, offering readers a brief virtual journey through an exhibition made possible by a year-long artist’s fellowship from the Jürgen Ponto Stiftung in Frankfurt during 2000/2001. ‘Kigo’ comprises 14 illuminated glass showcases filled with data structures designed to evoke feelings, smells, and memories through visual, auditory, and interactive elements. Synthetic images, including photographs and videos, are generated digitally and stored in a database. Together, these showcases create a diary that captures a specific time and sequence, with each showcase addressing a main theme while simultaneously influencing the others through technology.
