It is with pleasure that I write the foreword to this excellent book. A wide range of observations in geology and solid-earth geophysics can be explained in terms of fractal distributions. This volume features a collection of papers that explore the fractal behavior of the Earth's continental crust. The book opens with an insightful introductory chapter by Dr. V. P. Dimri. Surface gravity anomalies exhibit power-law spectral behavior across various conditions and scales, indicative of self-affine fractal behavior, though explanations remain controversial. In chapter 2, V. P. Dimri and R. P. Srivastava model this behavior using Voronoi tessellations. Chapter 3 sees K. Bahr employing a fractal-based random resistor network model to analyze electromagnetic induction experiments, which also display power-law spectral behavior. Chapter 4 features M. Fedi, D. Fiore, and M. La Manna, who utilize multifractal models to interpret well log data from the KTB borehole in Germany. In chapter 5, V. V. Surkov and H. Tanaka model electrokinetic currents associated with seismic electric signals through a fractal porous media approach. Finally, chapter 6 presents M. Pervukhina, Y. Kuwahara, and H. Ito, who use fractal networks to correlate the elastic and electrical properties of porous media.
