Michael Walter Hebeisen, who began his legal studies at the University of Bern in 1988, obtained his licentiate in 1992 with a focus on the sovereignty of the people and the connection between freedom and equality. He completed his doctorate in 1994, examining challenges to sovereignty. He served as a research assistant to Prof. Peter Saladin, contributing to discussions on the relevance of states and their objectives. From 1995 to 2001, he worked at the Federal Office of Justice, assisting in the comprehensive revision of the federal constitution. His research travels from 1997 to 1999 included visits to prestigious institutions across Europe, supported by a scholarship from the Swiss National Fund under Prof. Peter Häberle. Since 2002, he has been an independent scholar focusing on the history of science and legal philosophy, with numerous publications and active participation in international conferences. Since 2008, he has also been a translator, editor, and publisher of works by two Italian legal philosophers, Giuseppe Capograssi and Pietro Piovani. His notable publications include a comparative study of sovereignty theories, analyses of state objectives, and foundational works on jurisprudence as a human science. He has edited and translated selected writings of significant figures in legal philosophy.
