In his spiritual autobiography, A Song of Ascents, E. Stanley Jones states: "Surrendered to Christ and having the gift of the Holy Spirit, I can discipline my life around a new center -- that center is Christ." In this new book, the almost legendary world evangelist addresses himself to the Christian church, urging it to renew itself on the basis of this truth which has guided him on his mission. From the church at Antioch, he derives a vital and relevant nine-point pattern by which today's Christian "can raise the percentage of Christ in the church." Dr. Jones sees revealed in the Antioch church the heart of the Christian movement -- vitality and universality. To bring about a unity of the many Christian groups as the crowning achievement of renewal, he proposes a federal union of churches. Such a union offers unlimited possibilities for Christian co-operation while retaining the greatest degree of individuality of member groups. It is an imperative consideration for a rebirth of the church.
