The book focuses on incorporating new, practical aspects into operational transportation planning in commercial road haulage, such as subcontracting possibilities and cooperative planning approaches. It presents advanced concepts, models, and algorithms aimed at enhancing efficiency in this field, extending traditional vehicle routing and scheduling problems to a more integrated operational planning framework that includes various subcontracting forms and collaborative request execution. Despite the complexity of collaboration, the existing literature inadequately addresses the full scope of operational transportation planning. The author introduces an innovative approach that simultaneously considers multiple subcontracting forms, a topic not previously explored in depth. Currently, there is no optimization software or comprehensive Decision Support System to tackle this complex problem, which freight forwarding companies encounter daily. The author develops an algorithm based on real-life analysis to address this combinatorial optimization challenge, employing the tabu search method to integrate the latest methodological insights. Test results indicate promising outcomes and provide recommendations for balancing self-fulfillment and subcontracting in transportation modes.
