Physics of asymmetric continuum: extreme and fracture processes

Meer over het boek

This monograph builds on insights from a previous work, focusing on theoretical aspects that merit deeper exploration. We aim to develop innovative theoretical approaches to continuum theory, extending beyond traditional seismological applications. The work emphasizes the connections between experimental data, observed rotational seismic waves, and their theoretical interpretations. We investigate fundamental point motions and deformations, seeking invariant forms to describe these phenomena. Our premise is that fundamental equations governing all point motions and deformations exist, which we derive within the framework of continuum theory. In our standard asymmetric theory, we incorporate relations for displacement velocities, spin motion, and fundamental point deformations. This includes axial point formation and twist point deformation, represented through string-string and string-membrane motions. A twist vector, defined as perpendicular to the string-string plane, is introduced to quantify these motions and serves as a critical counterpart to spin. Subsequent chapters will demonstrate how twist motion captures the oscillations of shear axes, further enriching the theoretical landscape we explore.
