Informatics Education – Supporting Computational Thinking features papers from the Third International Conference on Informatics in Secondary Schools – Evolution and Perspective, ISSEP 2008, held in July 2008 in Torun, Poland. The volume continues the exploration of informatics education, addressing issues that transcend national boundaries and differences in educational systems. A noticeable trend emerges from the proceedings of previous ISSEP conferences, particularly the shift from a focus on general ICT education to a deeper understanding of informatics fundamentals. The early discussions emphasized computer literacy, with the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) gaining traction in schools since the late 1990s. This led to a favorable environment for teachers, parents, and students, as the curriculum was clear, easy to teach, and assess. Parents felt reassured that their children were learning relevant skills, and students found the subject engaging due to the modernity of computers. However, some educators foresaw the need for a more comprehensive approach, recognizing that the challenges of programming, once daunting, still required attention in the evolution of informatics education.
