Since 1981, the British National Conferences on Databases (BNCOD) have provided a platform for database researchers to share advancements and explore new concepts. Over the years, BNCOD has transformed from a national event into an international conference, attracting contributions globally. This volume presents the proceedings from BNCOD 2008, which received 45 submissions from 22 countries. Each submission underwent a rigorous review process by three referees, resulting in the acceptance of 14 full papers and 7 posters. The included research papers and posters are categorized into five sections: data mining and privacy, data integration, stream and event data processing, query processing and optimization, and posters. The keynote address was delivered by Monica Marinucci, EMEA Programme Director for Oracle in R&D. With extensive experience in advanced developments and participation in EC-funded projects, she discussed the power of data, highlighting how effective data management can be a significant asset for organizations. Additionally, she examined recent trends in the database field and outlined Oracle's collaborations with leading organizations across various sectors.
