Meer over het boek
Volume 2 of the „Beiträge zur Islamischen Kunst und Archäologie“ (BIKA) features contributions from colloquies held in Vienna (2007) and Bamberg (2008) under the Ernst Herzfeld Society. The topics encompass architecture, archaeology, painting, textile arts, and applied arts, spanning regions from Spain to Iran and India, and extending to Europe, with a timeline from the Early Islamic period to the 20th century. The Vienna colloquy’s theme of representation appears in several contributions, alongside discussions on trade and reception in Europe. Each contribution begins with an English abstract and is richly illustrated with 160 figures, many published for the first time. The volume covers three main areas: research on 8th-13th century Islamic Spain, 12th-15th century Iran and Central Asia, and Islamic art in Europe from the 15th to 20th centuries. Contributions include Antonio Pena's exploration of ancient spolia in the Great Mosque of Córdoba, Magdalena Valor's urban history of Almohad Sevilla, and Klaus Graf's pottery typology from Cuncos. In the second focus, Lorenz Korn presents a little-known mosque in Eastern Iran, while Markus Ritter discusses a unique textile with Arab inscriptions. The final section features Barbara Karl's examination of luxury Indian objects for trade and Iván Szántó's insights into Safavid painting and Mamluk influences in Hungary, concluding with Martin Gussone's analysis of a 1915 German mosque'
