This book offers a concise introduction to Jewish law, analyzing contemporary public and private law in Israel, its legal culture, government system, and the roles of its democratic institutions: executive, parliament, and judiciary. Shimon Shetreet, the Greenblatt Professor of Public and International Law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, serves as President of the International Association of Judicial Independence and World Peace and leads the International Project of Judicial Independence. A former member of the Israeli Parliament and cabinet minister, he was also senior deputy mayor of Jerusalem and a judge on the Standard Contract Court. Rabbi Walter Homolka, a full professor of Modern Jewish Thought and executive director of the School of Jewish Theology at the University of Potsdam, holds multiple doctorates and has authored significant works on Jewish law. He has received numerous honors, including the Knight Commander’s Cross of the Austrian Merit Order and the French Legion of Honor. His extensive experience in Jewish education and leadership enhances the book's insights into Jewish law and its applications.
