Christian Rohlfs kam 1901 auf Einladung des Mäzens und Sammlers Karl Ernst Osthaus nach Hagen. Osthaus präsentierte in seinem Folkwang Museum die Avantgarde der bildenden Kunst und brachte Rohlfs mit Druckgrafiken von Gauguin, Renoir, Vallotton und Munch in Kontakt. 1908, im Alter von 59 Jahren, begann Rohlfs selbst, Grafiken zu fertigen. In den folgenden Jahren entstand ein faszinierendes, umfangreiches Konvolut an Lithografien, Holz- und Linolschnitten. Das Buch stellt 185 dieser Blätter vor. Viele von ihnen wurden vom Künstler handkoloriert und werden hier erstmals gezeigt. Christian Rohlfs arrived in Hagen in 1901 at the invitation of the patron and collector Karl Ernst Osthaus. Osthaus had the avant-garde of the visual arts on display in his Folkwang Museum, and he brought Rohlfs into contact with prints by Gauguin, Renoir, Vallotton and Munch. In 1908, at the age of 59, Rohlfs began to produce prints himself. He produced a fascinating, comprehensive collection of linocuts, lithographs and woodcuts in the following years. The book presents 185 of those prints. Many of them have been hand tinted by the artist and are shown here for the first time.
