Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) is the most widely used non-surgical method for treating stenotic lesions in coronary artery disease. Continuous advancements in the procedure and equipment have enabled complex multi-vessel interventions and other intravascular techniques. This volume focuses on the causes, incidence, circumstances, recognition, treatment, and outcomes of PTCA complications, including the issue of restenosis, which remains unacceptably high after initially successful procedures. Experts in PTCA convened to share their experiences and insights on complications, organizing the discussion into four key areas: recognition of complications, complications in new interventional techniques, management of complications, and restenosis following angioplasty. The initial chapter explores whether angiographic and pathological characteristics of sclerotic lesions can help identify complication-prone lesions beforehand. Additionally, a paper reviews the state of digital cardiac imaging, which aids operators in anticipating and addressing potential complications during angioplasty. Special emphasis is placed on "high-risk" PTCA, examining clinical variables to better understand patients who may face a higher likelihood of unsuccessful or complicated procedures.
