The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, rooted since the late 1920s, intensified after the establishment of Israel on May 15, 1948. This state was created as a solution by European nations, accommodating many displaced Jews. However, over 750,000 Palestinians were either expelled or fled during this period, with around 470,000 seeking refuge in camps across Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt, while many others dispersed globally. Deprived of citizenship and rights, Palestinians have remained refugees in much of the Arab world. By 2013, over 150 settlements had been established on confiscated West Bank land, housing more than half a million Jews. These actions are viewed as provocations even by moderate Palestinian leaders. Israel's political landscape is increasingly resembling an apartheid state, with its international standing in decline. The Israeli intellectual community has consistently opposed the occupation and settlement expansions, emphasizing that human rights and equality—core tenets of Zionism—are being compromised. It is crucial for the call for a two-state solution to gain prominence as a voice of reason in this ongoing conflict.
