Meer over het boek
This collective volume from the Language Typology Workshop at the St. Petersburg Institute for Linguistic Studies explores taxis (relative tense) constructions across various languages. Building on research initiated in the 1960s, it examines grammatical verb categories linked to the semantic and syntactic structures of sentences. Previous publications include studies on resultative, iterative, imperative, conditional, reciprocal, and concessive constructions. The book is divided into two parts and an appendix. Part 1 provides foundational insights into taxis studies, presenting a theoretical framework that highlights both common semantic properties and typological grammatical differences among languages. This framework establishes a typology of taxis verb forms and characterizes prototypical and peripheral constructions, along with calculi for their meanings. Part 2 features two sections comprising 20 chapters that describe taxis constructions in various languages, following a uniform approach based on a common questionnaire. Contributors include a diverse group of linguists from Russia, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Hungary, Finland, Germany, and Sweden, among others. The volume is published as part of LINCOM Studies in Theoretical Linguistics and spans 710 pages.
