The catalogue documents the exhibition by New Zealand artist Matthew Cowan at the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum (28th May 2016 – 12th February 2017). Cowan, who’s artistic interest is in traditional customs and rituals, presents the results of his field research in the museum. Around fifty museum objects are presented together with six newly created art works in five rooms around historical conceptions of love and courtship. The exhibition offers a chance to merge the divisions between past and present, folklore and contemporary art.
