Focusing on Aligarh's urban fringe, this study explores the livelihoods of long-time villagers and migrants in the area. As a Class-I city in Uttar Pradesh, its proximity to New Delhi and major industrial cities highlights its growing importance. The 2011 census indicated a significant urban population, with projections suggesting further expansion to accommodate 1.2 million residents and a demand for additional housing. This urban growth is anticipated to bring substantial changes to nearby villages, affecting land use and socio-economic dynamics.
