Emmie's best friend is her her dog Maxwell, her beloved Super-Max. When Super-Max dies, Emmie is devastated. But then, she finds that he is in fact still around - he just doesn't have a body anymore. This story takes you by the hand and walks you through the pain of losing a beloved animal, and lets you experience the joy of realizing that the dead aren't actually all that 'dead'. It is a hopeful and sympathetic account of how a girl and her dog come to understand that, as Maxwell puts it, there's more to life than fur and bones.
