With the upcoming implementation of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and fourth-Generation networking technology, Next Generation Networks (NGN) are becoming a reality, driven by charging and Quality-of-Service (QoS) issues. The 6th International Workshop on Internet Charging and QoS Technology (ICQT 2009) focused on recent approaches, models, and mechanisms in this critical research area. This volume of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series includes papers presented at ICQT 2009, held on May 15, 2009, in Aachen, Germany, alongside the IFIP Networking 2009 conference, hosted by the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH Aachen). The commercial success of future QoS-enabled communication services hinges on the development of viable business models, pricing schemes, and effective charging and accounting mechanisms. Addressing these challenges requires an interdisciplinary approach that integrates various technical and economic perspectives, fostering a wide range of relevant research topics for application developers, business architects, network and service providers, and customers. In the context of a convergent NGN architecture, competition modeling, pricing mechanisms, and the economics of inter-domain traffic are particularly urgent, forming the core of the ICQT 2009 program through three dedicated technical sessions.
