This study and other studies show that patent applications of Baden-Württemberg's SMEs have decreased while the worldwide patent-flood is rising. Most Baden-Württemberg SMEs have worldwide businesses and should therefore also protect their products worldwide to be up to the competitors. Often in Baden-Württemberg enterprises Intellectual Property Management is far from optimum, advising and supporting services are not used sufficiently.
