The Fachgebiet Verteilte Messsysteme (VMS) at Technische Universität München was founded in 2003. During its five years of existence, VMS has become an active partner of many academic and industrial organizations. The present volume addresses some of the main topics of our research activities and presents selected results achieved during the last five years. These results have contributed to many cooperative projects with partners from academia and industry.
