Set against the backdrop of post-war Afghanistan, the story follows a young officer, Micaela Vargas, who becomes obsessed with solving the murder of a soccer referee. After the initial suspect is released, Vargas seeks the help of Professor Hans Rekke, a renowned interrogation expert. Their investigation reveals unsettling ties between Sweden and the American "war on terror," leading them to question the referee's true identity. As they delve deeper, they face challenges from the CIA and Rekke's influential brother, blurring the lines between victim and perpetrator.
