The Fraud

Set in 1873, the narrative centers on Mrs. Eliza Touchet, a skeptical Scottish housekeeper to the fading novelist William Ainsworth, who grapples with her cousin's lack of talent and the moral complexities of society. Parallel to her story is Andrew Bogle, a former enslaved man from Jamaica, who becomes a key witness in the sensational Tichborne Trial, questioning identity and truth. As Mrs. Touchet and Bogle navigate a landscape rife with deception and pretense, they confront the challenges of discerning reality in a hypocritical world.
