Set against the backdrop of rebellion, the story follows Dr. Peter Blood, an Irish physician with a diverse past as a sailor and soldier. Despite his reluctance to engage in the uprising for the Duke of Monmouth, he cares for wounded soldiers, which leads to his wrongful conviction for treason. Instead of execution, King James II opts to sell Peter and other criminals into slavery for financial gain, thrusting him into a perilous new fate.
