Bangor, Co. Down, was always Northern Ireland's favourite holiday destination and in this history of the town its heyday as a resort, the years from 1900 to the Second World War, are recalled in a selection of fifty-three photographs from those years. Shops, streets and buildings from years gone by are all featured and the many scenes include battleships flying the flag off the coast, the charabanc tours at the Esplanade, Market Day, kids paddling at Children's Corner, the Bandstand, the packed beach at Ballyholme Bay, the Belfast steamers arriving at the piers, the 'ladies' bathing place' at Pickie's Rock (of which men were forbidden to come within 100 yards!), a visit by King Edward VII, and Henry Wingfield playing the magnificent organ at the fondly remembered Tonic Cinema
