Sisters Matilde, Pastora, Camila, and Flor believe they know each other well until Flor, inspired by a documentary from her daughter Ona, decides to host a living wake. This celebration aims to bring family and community together while she can still enjoy it. Although not ill, Flor possesses a unique gift: she can predict death to the exact day. Uncertain if she has foreseen her own demise or someone else's, she remains secretive about her motives. However, Flor isn't the only one hiding truths. Matilde has concealed her husband's infidelity for years and must now confront her marriage's reality. Pastora, usually reserved, is spurred by Flor's plans to tackle her sisters' challenges. Meanwhile, cousins Ona and Yadi face their own struggles: Yadi reconnects with her first love, who was imprisoned during their youth, while Ona, married for years, grapples with the pressures of trying to conceive and the stagnation of her anthropology research. Spanning the three days leading up to the wake, the narrative intricately weaves together the lives of the Marte women, bridging past and present, the Dominican Republic and New York City. With a distinctive voice, this story offers a poignant exploration of family dynamics and the journey through shared history.
