Since then, she has survived by reading fortunes with her Saturn Club tarot deck, a gift she once dismissed but now finds invaluable. For many, Saturnalia offers a brief escape from the harsh realities of a city grappling with extreme weather, economic decline, and disease-carrying mosquitoes. While the holiday has evolved into a uniquely American celebration, for Nina, it serves as a painful reminder of her past. A surprise call from Max, a well-connected member of the Club and her last friend, pulls her back into the Club's extravagant solstice masquerade on a mysterious mission she can't refuse. Dressed in black, Nina attends the year's biggest party, where she uncovers secret societies vying for power in a fragile world. As she navigates an alternate Philadelphia filled with parades, worship houses, and hidden mansions, Nina must confront her past to reclaim her future and protect not just herself but everyone around her.
