Volume II: Cumberland's biggest horse races are the background for a murder story. A bookie's clerk is found dead; Inspector Armstrong is certain there's more to this than a lone murder. In the second case, Inspector Armstrong is invited to meet the Kaiser while he is visiting his friend, the Fifth Earl of Lonsdale.
