The story follows Atticus O'Sullivan, the last Druid, who now mentors his apprentice Granuaile, who has become a full Druid. They are joined by Owen Kennedy, an ancient archdruid recently revived, whose unpredictable nature complicates their quest. As they confront challenges like a sorcerer's spirit possessing Granuaile's father and face various mythical creatures, the trio navigates their personal issues and the threat posed by Loki, hoping their combined strength will lead to success.
