This book presents us with a concise history of the Germanic people, embedded in European and even world history. So Chinese history is touched to make clear the complicated ways of mankind in Europe from the Roman empire to the early middle ages. The reader learns about wars and quarrels, not always political but also personal, leaving their trace through the centuries. Stringing up German(ic) history's V.I.P.s chronologically, the author's aim is to show the Germanic peoples' development from muddle and unrest unto the forming of a state bearing the name Deutschland and the forming of a nation.
