One of China's most popular authors Ru Zhijuan is best known for her short stories. This collection contains ten works including "Lillies", the story which brought her fame in 1958.Many of the earlier themes of her stories were drawn from the War of Liberation, but she now writes on a wide range of subjects. "A Badly Edited Story" and "The Path Through the Grassland" both recent works, have won national awards. Her stories are well constructed and engagingly written, with an emphasis on subtle characterization.Ru Zhijuan born in Shanghai in 1925.In 1943 she joined a theatrical group entertaining troops of the New Fourth Army She began her writing career in 1950 and in 1955 joined the Chinese Writers' Association and the editorial staff of Literary Monthly.
