Focusing for the first time on reform and the question of Muslim women's agency, Gendering Minorities: Muslim Women and the Politics of Modernity explores the politics of framing Muslim women's identity in India. Against the backdrop of colonial modernity, nationalist movements and post-Independence dialogues, it provides a rich archive comprising the 'feminist enterprises' that Muslim women in Kerala were involved in at several historical junctures. The book also seeks an exten sion of the contours of feminism in India to include Muslim women's agency, casting off patronisation and victimhood.
