Theodor Fontane's exploration of Brandenburg is presented in a comprehensive collection, encompassing five significant regions: Ruppin, the Oderland, Havelland, Spreeland, and five castles. Each section reflects Fontane's keen observations and literary craftsmanship, crafted during various periods from 1859 to 1888, with initial publications spanning from 1862 to 1889. The text adheres to the well-regarded edition from 1892, ensuring fidelity to Fontane's original intent while also incorporating revisions made over the years. The first part, focusing on Ruppin, was developed between 1859 and 1861, with its first print appearing in 1862. The Oderland followed, written between 1860 and 1863, and published in 1863. Havelland, crafted from 1863 to 1872, saw its first release in 1873, while Spreeland's narrative evolved between 1859 and 1881, debuting in 1882. The final section, dedicated to five castles, was created from 1880 to 1888 and first published in 1889. This new edition, edited by Karl-Maria Guth, is presented in a large format (210 x 297 mm) with a two-column layout. The foundational texts are derived from the comprehensive works edited by Edgar Gro and others, spanning multiple volumes published between 1959 and 1975, ensuring a rich and authentic reading experience.
