Set against the backdrop of early-twentieth century Berlin, the story follows the Landesburg family as they transition from a modest dairy farm to social prominence. Sigmund, a successful physician, and his wife Marissa, a descendant of Otto von Bismarck, navigate their rising status while their daughter Anna befriends the talented violinist Marta. As the 1930s usher in the rise of Nazism, the lives of these two young women, one Jewish and the other gentile, become increasingly intertwined with the tumultuous historical events surrounding them.
