The story follows Tate Barkley as he unwittingly becomes entangled with Gator, the leader of a gang known as "plumers," who ruthlessly kill birds for fashion. Ignorant of this dark world at first, Tate quickly learns about the dangers of the Everglades. Teaming up with a wealthy Yankee detective searching for a missing friend, Tate finds himself in a perilous adventure filled with unexpected challenges and revelations about the brutal realities of wildlife exploitation.
