Meer over het boek
Set in the gritty Bowery, the novella explores the life of a young girl named Maggie, whose struggles with poverty and isolation lead her to tragic circumstances. Notable for its literary realism and bold themes, the work challenged contemporary norms, prompting publishers to hesitate due to its content. Stephen Crane, at just 22, self-financed its initial release under a pseudonym. Following the acclaim of his later work, the novella was revised and reissued in 1896, and it is accompanied by the story "George's Mother."
