Focusing on the challenges faced by Mainland Chinese students transitioning to a Hong Kong university, this study highlights the complexities of experiencing both school-university and cross-border transitions simultaneously. It reveals how these students navigate significant linguistic and cultural adjustments that impact their autonomy in personal management, academic learning, and English proficiency. Through a longitudinal qualitative approach, the research uncovers the unique struggles and adaptations these students encounter during their first year.
