Friedrich Max Müller was a pivotal figure in the development of Indian studies and religious studies in the West. His scholarly contributions include the influential 50-volume set, The Sacred Books of the East, which he oversaw as a translator. Notably, he introduced the concept of a Turanian language family. His academic career flourished at Oxford University, where he became deputy professor of modern European languages and was honored with an M.A. and membership at Christ Church.
