Set in medieval Yorkshire, a mortal woman's love for another woman leads to her ostracism by society and the church. Seeking solace, she becomes an herbal healer in a forest cottage. When threatened with execution as a witch, she is saved by a vampire and joins a Sisterhood in York that promotes ethical living for vampires. However, the Sisterhood disbands after Henry VIII's ban on prostitution, prompting Marion to become a battlefield nurse, traveling across Europe amidst the turmoil of the times.
