The Logic of Metaphor

Focusing on the logical dimensions of metaphors, this work aims to analyze their meanings through formal semantics. It introduces the structural theory of metaphor (STM), which posits that metaphors are cognitively meaningful and logically connected to truth. The author extends possible worlds semantics to illustrate how sentences can possess multiple meanings, such as the literal and metaphorical interpretations of "Juliet is the sun." While no formal logic training is required, some familiarity with philosophical logic is beneficial for understanding the concepts presented.
