The biography chronicles the life of Fred Merrick White, who transitioned from a career as a solicitor's clerk to a successful journalist and author. After facing family turmoil, including his father's imprisonment, White found his passion in writing, producing numerous serialized novels and stories, particularly noted for their imaginative use of science. His experiences during World War I, especially concerning his sons' service, deeply influenced his work, including the novel The Seed of Empire. He spent his later years in Devon, where he continued to write before his death in 1935.
