Aerial mining by RAF Bomber Command played a crucial role in the Allied victory during World War II, significantly disrupting Axis shipping more effectively than direct attacks. Beginning in April 1940, these minelaying operations grew in scale and impact throughout the war, targeting not only merchant vessels but also Kriegsmarine ships and U-boats.
