The research focuses on the population dynamics of surf clams Donax hanleyanus and Mesodesma mactroides along Argentina's sandy beaches, revealing significant differences in their population structure, growth, and reproductive biology. Histological analyses across varied beach morphologies uncovered a new size at first maturity and distinct reproductive cycles, challenging the previously accepted habitat harshness hypothesis. Additionally, the study introduced a novel fluorescent tagging-recapture method for efficiently estimating growth rates in these species.
