Set in a world where magic is fading, the story follows Sirion Hilversun, the last enchanter, who fears for his daughter's future as he nears death. His daughter, Helen, is proposed to by the king of the unmagical Caramorn, a desperate move she despises. In an attempt to escape the marriage, Helen inadvertently becomes entwined with Ewan, a boy cataloging the palace library, in a centuries-old spell. Their quest to complete the spell could dismantle the last remnants of magic, raising the stakes for their survival and the fate of their world.
