Subsequent parts explore themes of cultural identity, conflict, and resilience, including a daughter's conversion to Mormonism, a grandson's experiences in boarding school and WWI, and the family's ties to significant historical events like WWII and modern military conflicts. The final chapter introduces a contemporary thirteen-year-old girl on the Wind River Reservation.
